Igeekphone News, June 13th: According to the South Korean media TheElec’s report last night, Samsung is about to start the trial production of a 115-inch RGB Micro LED TV.
Sources disclosed that Yoon Suk-woo (transliteration), the head of Samsung’s TV business, visited the factory in Vietnam last week and personally inspected the relevant production processes.
This RGB Micro LED TV is an upgraded version of the Samsung Neo QLED TV. Neo QLED uses Mini LED as the backlight source and belongs to a type of liquid crystal television (LCD).
Although Samsung calls it a Micro LED TV, in fact, this TV does not have the self-luminous feature. The accurate technical name should be RGB Mini LED-LCD TV. It is called “RGB” because it does not use traditional white leds but directly uses red, green and blue leds as backlights.
Igeekphone learned from the report that traditional white leds are produced by adding phosphors to blue leds, with a wide wavelength range. After passing through the filter, it is easy to cause the color to be not pure enough. While RGB leds each maintain an independent wavelength, they have higher color purity and are less likely to be distorted even after passing through a filter.
However, unlike the Samsung QLED TV, this RGB Micro LED TV does not adopt quantum dot technology. Insiders said that this is because RGB leds themselves already have excellent color expressiveness and do not require additional quantum dot films.
The pricing of this product has drawn widespread attention from the outside world. At the CES exhibition earlier this year, Samsung showcased different models of products such as 75 inches, 85 inches and 98 inches, and positioned RGB Micro LED as a more affordable high-end TV product compared to self-luminous Micro LED.
